Ever been to hawleywoods? I got my first haircut there on wednsday, hoping the guys aren't douche bags.
I haven’t, since I’m from the Bay Area. I’ve been wanting to, though.
I’ve heard both good and bad things from them:
- The guys are cocky. But when you’re apart of something with such a huge fan base, as well as haters, you can only expect so much.
- Cool shop.
- If you don’t come off as a herb, they’ll treat you right.
- Good haircuts.
Now, from what I’ve seen, they cut hair in a very specific way, that calls for specific ways of styling and type of pomade you use. If you’ve seen pics of their cuts, you’ll know what I mean. Every shop has a very specific way they do hair.
Just like any place you’re going into for the first time, don’t come off as a prick, just because you’ve heard some bad shit about the place, and you’ll be fine.
It’s like going into a tattoo shop, spitting on their floor and calling the owner a cum dumpster, and expecting to get a killer tattoo for $80. A wild analogy, but it works…?
Hey man! Just wanted to drop by and see how you're doing! Also, I started using Murray's every now and then, but it's a bit heavy for me. I use a water based pomade (American Crew) that I just grabbed randomly, which seems to work well for styling but has no hold. The problem I have with Murray's is that although it has great hold, I can't seem to get the height that I do with the water based. Any ideas for something a little lighter than Murray's but with a similar hold?
Sup man, lookin’ all dapper and shit in the avy.
If you kinda dig Murray’s, you’ll dig Hairgum USA’s Road line. It’s noticeably softer/lighter than Murray’s, but I don’t think you need something that heavy/harsh in your hair.
If, for whatever reason, Hairgum is too light for you, check out Dax High & Tight (Awesome Hold.) It’s my preferred alternative to Dax Wave & Groom, which was originally my preferred alternative to Murray’s Superior! It’s a killer pomade. It’s malleable, has good sheen, holds throughout the day, and smells great. I’m a little behind on that review, but I’ll have it up soon!
hey my man, i got a couple questions for you. first off, how do you make your pomp "bulbous" as you call it? mine isn't super shield-ish but i cant make it look as full and rounded as id like. second, how does your hair not look like bad greasy? you can tell yours is purposefully greasy, but mine sometimes just looks like i haven't washed my hair in a year.
To get it more rounded, you gotta comb it not only at the front, but also at the side of the pomp. You’ll start getting the hang of it, and it’ll flow nicely and be full.
As far as the oily look goes, I apply pomade to my hair daily. If not, it’ll just look like I have oily hair, as opposed to greasy hair. Which, as you can tell, makes a difference.
Big fan of your blogs and such and I just had one question. I know you've have some issues with Suavecito pomade and what not with their customer service, but seeing as how the past couple months they've actually updated and upgraded a lot of their catalog as well as their contact information(twitter, tumblr, facebook, wordpress and so on). Also their entire website do you think that's enough to try to check them out this time? I'd like to hear your review on them!
Thanks for the headsup on their update. But… We’ll see. I’m not one to hold grudges, especially over petty shit like pomade, but I’m also not one to fold, either. I have no personal gripes with the brand as a whole, just their customer service, which is considerable. Especially when you take into consideration the free publicity/advertisement, from a (not to toot my own horn) relatively popular blog.
But again, we’ll see. I still have a whole line up for reviews to do, and have some other requests to review other pomades, that have more demand than them.
I’ve had these pomades in my possession for a good while now, but figured I’d save them for the New Year. I mean, it’s a new year, might as well kick it off with some new pomade! Well, hopefully you guys are still into pomade and haven’t shaved your heads!
Got the rest of Steve’s pomade line, now the collection is complete! I’ve heard good things about these, so I’m stoked to try em out!
Clearly… I was a bit overeager opening the package.
Big thanks again to Steve + Elaine and co!
And all the way out of Brazil, comes Three Kings Pomade! They’ve definitely kicked things off right, with a real proper design. Big thanks to André! Stay tuned for this review, it’s the next one up!
